Is it possible to send emails or sms via alarm/fault conditions? We need to notify the operators in real time and this is the best possible way for us.

SMS - yes, a separate protocol “SMS Gateway” can send sms messages (including processing of delivery receipts), also dial specified numbers and accept incoming calls.
